 What is an accident? 

A marine accident is an incident or a sequence of incidents occurring in direct relation to the ship's operation which leads to:

• Foundering
• Grounding
• Fall over board
• Fire or explosion
• Collision and allision
• Death or injury of persons
• Very serious diver accidents
• Serious damage to ship, infrastructure or marine environment

Deliberate acts that compromise the safety of ships, individuals or the environment are not considered as being marine accidents.
