Fire - CHARLOTTE MÆRSK - 7 July 2010

Marine accident report on the fire on the container ship CHARLOTTE MÆRSK in the Strait of Malacca on 7 July 2010.



The Danish Maritime Accident Investigation Board has published a report about the fire on the container ship CHARLOTTE MÆRSK.

On 7 July 2010, CHARLOTTE MÆRSK was en route from Port Klang, Malaysia bound for Salalah, Oman. At 2119 approximately three hours after departure crew members on the bridge observed smoke rising from the forward part of the ship.

Its was soon apparent that there was a rapidly developing fire on deck. The crew started the fire fighting effort within minutes and managed to bring the fire under control after 24 hours of fire fighting.

A certificate of commendation from the IMO was awarded to the crew of CHARLOTTE MÆRSK for their acts of bravery during the fire.
